Privacy Policy

1. Overview

Step Yatra turns your daily steps into a virtual journey across India. We built it to be simple, calm, and private. Everything you do in Step Yatra stays on your phone. There are no user accounts, we run no servers of our own, and the released app ships without internet permission — so your steps, progress, and personal details are never uploaded, sold, or shared with us or anyone else.

2. Information We Collect

We do not collect, receive, or have access to any of your information. Everything below is stored only on your device, in the app's private storage.

A. Information you provide

• Your name (optional) — only if you add it to your passport; used to personalise greetings and your share cards
• Your settings — daily step goal, language, and theme preferences

B. Information the app creates on your device

• Step counts read from your phone's built-in step sensor
• Your journey progress — distance walked, cities unlocked, stamps collected, and your daily/weekly streaks and goals

C. What we do NOT collect

• No personal identifiers (name, email, phone) sent to us
• No location or GPS data
• No health/fitness data shared with us or third parties
• No contacts, and no access to your existing photos or files
• No advertising IDs, analytics, or tracking
• No accounts, logins, or cloud sync

3. App Permissions

Step Yatra requests the minimum permissions needed to work:

• Physical Activity / Motion & Fitness (Android: Activity Recognition; iOS: Motion & Fitness) — required to read your step count from your phone's built-in sensor. This is the core of the app, and the data is processed on-device only
• Save to Photos / Storage (save only) — used only when you tap "Save" on a share postcard, to write that image to your gallery. Newer devices need no permission; older Android versions require storage access. The app never reads or browses your existing photos

You can grant or deny these in your device settings at any time. If you deny activity access, the app cannot count steps and your journey won't progress.

4. Third-Party Services

Step Yatra contains no third-party advertising, analytics, or tracking SDKs, and no backend of ours.

• App stores (Google Play / Apple App Store): the store platform may collect download and crash information under its own privacy policy. This is standard for any app and is outside our control
• Sharing: when you share a postcard, your device's native share sheet passes the image to the app you choose (e.g., WhatsApp, Instagram). What you share is then governed by that app's privacy policy

5. Data Retention

Because all data lives on your device, it remains for as long as the app is installed. You can reset it anytime by clearing the app's data in your device settings. Uninstalling the app permanently deletes all your data (steps, progress, stamps, name, settings). We keep no copy, so it cannot be recovered.

6. Data Security

Your information is protected by your device's own security (lock screen, OS sandboxing, encryption). Because nothing is transmitted to us or stored on external servers, there is no online database that could be breached. As with any software, no storage method is 100% secure, but keeping data on-device greatly reduces risk.

7. Your Rights (GDPR / CCPA / CPRA)

Privacy laws such as the GDPR (EU) and CCPA/CPRA (California) give you rights to access, correct, and delete your personal data. Because Step Yatra stores everything locally and we never receive it, you are always in full control:

• Access: all your data is visible inside the app on your device
• Correction: edit your name, goals, and settings anytime
• Deletion: clear the app's data or uninstall to erase everything

We have nothing to provide, correct, or delete on our side, because we never collect your data in the first place.

8. Children's Privacy

Step Yatra is suitable for a general audience, including children. The app does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13 (or the equivalent age in your region). Since no data is collected or transmitted, the app is safe for users of all ages.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the "Last updated" date above, and significant changes will be reflected in an app update. Your continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
